Weekly Prayer Focus: Bures Baptist Church

Week 16

Bures is a bustling village on the Suffolk border and home to Bures Baptist Church which is a well-known body in the local community.

The church is led by part-time minister Rev Cath Brown and a team of three deacons. Cath has been at Bures for thirteen years, originally beginning as a lay pastor, then MIT and will finally receive her welcome handshake at the Baptist Assembly in Telford next month.

The church was built in the nineteenth century and the small congregation meets each Sunday with Cath leading the service.

There is a big vision to fix and improve the buildings, improve the facilities and ultimately be able to welcome more people, more frequently to a safe and welcoming space where they can experience the love of God.  Work is currently underway to refurbish the hall, create an additional meeting room, modern toilets and importantly a food-worthy kitchen. Nearly half the money required has already been raised and phased building work has begun. The next phase will be disabled toilets/kitchen. The fundraising is an exercise in faith and trust and events allow an opportunity to meet with others in the local community too.

The church already has a very busy weekday programme of activities and the new facilities will allow for additional community-based outreach and involvement.

There is currently a weekly drop-in youth club and also a youth Bible study meeting.  The winter warm space on Tuesdays has now become a well-attended wellbeing space. And the toddler group called “Footprints” is going really well.

So pray for the church at Bures and their forward-looking fellowship as God is at work there.

Please pray:

  • For more resources and people to be part of the church.
  • For all the fundraising needed to complete the building work and success in grant applications.
  • To give thank for all the things God is beginning to make happen.
  • To know wisdom in stewarding resources and prioritising the mission opportunities.
