Weekly Prayer Focus: Christ Church, Coggeshall

Week 18

Coggeshall is an attractive historic town in north Essex located between Colchester and Braintree which has almost 300 listed buildings. Christ Church is an LEP formed in 1989 when the Baptist, Methodist and URC churches in the village came together as one family. The church is led by Baptist minister Rev John Prothero who has been in post for the last seven years, supported by three deacons.

Weekly services are on Sunday afternoons led by John and the in-house preaching team. Services are relaxed, contemporary and provide thematic and relevant teaching. There is a new monthly worship service on Saturday evenings which is going well.

The church premises are large and provide a good community resource so are hired out to a number of different groups to generate a regular income. These include a home-schooling group and a community choir. The church runs a community lunch club on Mondays, a very popular coffee morning on Thursdays and a thriving parent and toddler group on Thursdays.

Although the church is small in number it is big in love. There is a lot of new housing development in the town and they pray the Lord will send new people to be part of the church who will bring new talents, skills and be able to give their time to augment the current leadership team who are very stretched.

For prayer:

That a time will come soon when the church is financially able to manage without the income from hiring its premises.
For growth, both numerically and in resources. That the church will remain Christ-centered and have the luxury of people who will participate and take up the strain on the loyal helpers. And for growth in the leadership team.
For the ongoing maintenance and upkeep of the historic building which is a big issue.
That the fellowship will remain united and one in Christ.
