North Springfield Baptist Church lies northeast of Chelmsford, Essex, and recently celebrated their fiftieth anniversary last November. The church lies in the centre of a big housing estate. Over the years children’s attendance has fluctuated, but recently God answered prayer and they are welcoming new families with children. They used to be a mainly white church but are now increasingly multi-ethnic and are blessed to see this new influx as part of the life of the church.
Regular activities throughout the week are: Happy Faces for 0-4’s; Haven Community Coffee Morning; Kraft Club; a Drop in at Church session; a youth group called God’s Royalty; regular bible study and a monthly praise and worship service, and prayer walks alongside weeks of prayer.
The coffee morning is relatively new but has really taken off. Attendance has led to questions and there are now requests for bible study. The youth group has two youngsters currently seeking baptism and some have requested becoming door greeters on a Sunday morning, with another wanting to join the flower rota. All this has been encouraging for the church people.
The church has a deep desire to continue developing their outreach and senses that people are seeking but without knowing what they are seeking for. They find that people are receptive and long to reach into and build on this.
The church has been without a minister for two and a half years, but recently a visiting preacher gelled with the church and vice versa, and this will be explored further in weeks to come. Alongside this there are high hopes for a new minister to be a part of their outreach and for all ages to come to know the Lord Jesus.
