Chatteris is a town on the edge of the Cambridgeshire fens that is home to Emmanuel Church, a Baptist/URC/Methodist partnership founded about thirty years ago when three local churches merged and moved to one location in the town centre. For the past four years the church has been led by Rev Dr Charlie Radburn and his wife Sandy.
Emmanuel Church had been through a tough time, not helped by covid, but there has been a period of consolidation and healing. The church is seeing visible growth with new people attending and a Sunday morning congregation of about forty. Recently there has been a welcome to six new members and some new converts are attending too.
There is a wide range of activities including weekly daytime and evening home groups, a community choir, the Open Doors café on Fridays, men’s breakfast and other social events which are used for outreach. Befriending people and building relationships is a key part of this strategy.
On Sundays the main church service uses telephone conferencing to reach out to those who cannot be physically present. This started during covid and continues to provide a valuable ministry. Once a month on Sunday evenings there is a time of informal praise and worship.
On 2nd September the church held an awayday for all people who want to be involved in the future of the church which was led by Regional Minister Gale Richards.
