Weekly Prayer Focus: Christ Church, Stock

Week 24

Stock is an attractive Essex village six miles south of Chelmsford and Christ Church is prominently located on the main road in the centre of the village.

The church appointed Jane Wyndham as part-time pastor in February 2023. Jane has been part of the church for over 20 years and splits her time between running a hairdressing salon and ministerial training.  She brings lots of energy and enthusiasm to her role in the church and works hard to achieve a balance between work and church.

The church is growing and seeing new families joining from the locality. Last year the church leadership team held an awayday and developed a vision of “Focusing on seeking the presence of God” which feeds into everything the church does.

On Sundays there are lively services with input from the worship band where Jane’s husband John Paul is the drummer. Once a month there is an “Alternative Service” with creative craft which is a cross between all-age and messy church with lots of input and participation. There is also an Encounter evening worship service once a quarter.

Christ Church has a busy weekday programme of activities including a mother and toddler group which is good at introducing children and families into the church, a coffee morning, a prayer meeting which started on Zoom during covid but now meets in person at the church, and a youth group called Rooted which meets on Fridays.

The church also works closely with the Anglican and Roman Catholic churches in the village and has a unique covenant for the different churches to work together.

Please pray for:

  • Jane and her ministry following time off after a family bereavement.
  • Give thanks for the support from other churches in our Baptist family for their help and assistance.
  • For all the activities that take place at the church and that others will step up to assist and provide the ongoing resources needed.
  • For the witness of the church within the local community.
