Each week the Eastern Baptist Association will produce a Weekly Prayer Focus for a different member church across the region. We hope you will be able to use the article and accompanying PowerPoint and PDF to encourage you and your churches in prayers for others in the association.

Renew Inclusive Church Cambridge is a small fellowship that meets twice a month in a community centre in Cambridge.  It describes itself as a phoenix rising from a previous traditional Baptist Church.  The decision to become inclusive with a positive LGBTQI stance took its members to a crossroads.  It was a painful time for all involved – for those holding a more traditional viewpoint and left, and for the very small number who remained.  The church was unable to sustain funding for its minister and he left.  Since then, the church has undergone growth of 50% and regular worshippers cover a wide age and demographic range.  It has also moved from its former crumbling premises in a village location to the community centre in the…

Pier Avenue Baptist Church is a busy and vibrant church in Clacton-on-Sea. The church, which is just 10 minutes from the seaside and adjacent to the town centre, has a diverse cross-section of people attending its Sunday services and many activities. On a Sunday, the service includes participation from the worship band, some members and children, and a sermon from Minister Michelle or another church leader. However, much of the business is found during the week with the building in use every day. This includes a toddler’s group, Girls Brigade, boys club for primary age children, house groups and a Saturday coffee morning. There is also a project for vulnerable people which is its own small church community. Outside the church, there are links to…

Nansen Road Baptist Church lies on a council estate in the district of Nacton in Ipswich and the heart of their message can be wrapped up in ‘following, serving and sharing Christ.’ They seek to reach out to the community around and give help where needed and as part of this approach run community events regularly at Easter, Christmas and in the summer months. Throughout 2026 extra events will be held as they joyfully celebrate their centenary this year: an event at Easter with a hip hop artist; an afternoon tea in May and a summer event will see a group called Tough Talk sharing their faith. The church also collaborates with other local churches, holding meetings periodically for prayer and sharing, and also give…

Leigh Road Baptist Church is possibly the oldest Baptist Church in Leigh-on-Sea, Southend. Yet its focus is not on the past, but on serving the local community in the here and now, showing them Jesus and equipping its members to grow in discipleship. With a membership of 146, the church welcomes between 100 and 120 people at its Sunday morning gathering, with new faces appearing each week and others at its Tuesday afternoon gathering. The church’s strong ethos of engaging with its local community is brought to life through its many activities engaging with over 750 people of all ages from pre-school to the ‘young at heart’ retired, the availability of its buildings, including The Stables and the Living Room (that it has ‘gifted’ to the community), its sporting outreach and tennis club, its encouragement of…
