Safeguarding training at Level 2 and Level 3 proves to be one of the Associations largest attended. 2017 saw 888 individuals trained at Level 2 and 427 trained at Level 3, this shows that as churches we are taking seriously the need to train and equip our ministers and volunteers. Shared Space in Southend-on-Sea played its part in organising the first ‘Business of Mission Conference’. On Tuesday 25 April 2017, forty five church leaders came from across the East of England region to this day of training run by Church from Scratch in partnership with Shared Space and the Eastern Baptist Association. The day that took place at Sudbury Baptist Church, was a day of training in social enterprise to help churches explore how this approach complement their existing work. The morning seminars on theory were balanced by practical workshops in the afternoon, case studies and stories of people already engaged in social enterprise. Shared Space has already been providing some social enterprise training for church leaders over the previous four years through the residential ‘Immersive Experience’ programme run by Church from Scratch.
During Pentecost this year the Eastern Baptist Association launched a new mission resource by the churches for the churches of the Association. 50 Days of Mission (#50Days) is full of current mission projects and ideas that are being successfully run by our churches. Every day a new story was shared on www.50Days.org.uk and via the Eastern Baptist Association’s Facebook and Twitter pages, in the hope that you and your church will be inspired to try new things, and to encourage you in the projects you are already involved with. Each story comes with some practical tips for anyone interested in adopting the idea in their own context, and if you want to find out more, contact details for each project are available upon request from the EBA Secretary. Our intention is to share this as widely as possible, so please share these details with all who may be interested.
