Pioneering & Planting Grants – Closing date 28 February 2026
Up to the equivalent of a half-stipend (£15,203 for 2026), which must be focused on pioneering, church planting, or other missional start-up ministries.
Applicants will be able to apply for a grant to be spent on any relevant cost to take their project forward, not just a stipend. However, if they do apply for a stipend or salary, they must commit to meeting all associated costs (e.g. pension and expenses).
Grants will be given where evidence is provided about how the recipient will become self-funding and sustainable in the long-term.
It is expected that these grants will taper off over a 5-year period.
Multi-year awards are available if appropriate.
Where ‘missional listening’ projects are approved, whereby pioneers are embedded in hard-to-reach communities, the EBA Grants Committee has discretion to vary the standard terms of grant-making to ensure that the guidance serves mission, not the other way around.

It is expected that these grants will taper off over a 5-year period.

Grants awarded by agreement from Regional Ministers and designated EBA trustees.
Ministerial Bursary Grants
Where a minister has not been able to attain a BUGB CMD grant, up to £250 may be given to pay for / contribute towards a specific piece of training and development, e.g. a conference or event.
Grants awarded by agreement from Regional Ministers and designated EBA trustees.
Applications
Application forms for all four grants are available from our EBA Secretary via secretary@easternbaptist.org.uk, who will also be able to speak to applicants about what the application assessment process will involve.
Notes
Pioneering & Planting Grants and Mission & Ministry Grants are means-tested as part of the application process. However, for all of the Grants we expect churches not to apply if they have easily available resources to cover these costs.
At the discretion of the EBA Grants Committee a 10% uplift in the amounts awarded may be given for applications relating to ministry in parts of the Association that are poorer and/or less churched.
The arrangements for all of these Grants will be applied to all new applications. Current recipients of Grants under the old framework will be helped to transition to the new arrangements over the next three years, in consultation with Regional Ministers.
