The Power to set Free – Discussion starter resource

Sometimes I feel like this butterfly! It can continue to bang its head against the window but it can’t get through in its own power.

Sometimes we feel trapped. Whatever we try, there is no way through. No Solution!

Will we keep banging our heads against the barrier or will we go to God?

A person can open the window with ease. What is impossible for the butterfly, is simple for us.

What are the things that are outside of our power but that are simple for God? Why are we still trying to fix them instead of crying out to Him?

Imagine being one of Jesus’ dsiciples at the feeding of teh 5000. ‘You feed them’ Jesus says. We could slice the bread as thinly as possible, but still woju;dn’t come close to solving the problem.

Are there times when we are trying to slice the bread thinly, rather than calling on God to act?

One of the possible reasons that we try to fix things ourselves is that we see ourselves as the saviour. Some of us are exhausted becasue we are trying to save people in our own strength.  Having discovered that we don’t have the resources or power, we feel deflated and discouraged.

Are we willing to accept that Jesus is the saviour, not us?

As we help people in need. What difference would putting Jesus at the centre make?

As we travel through life, will we keep our eyes open. We all have power to help and to bring hope and encouragement. Will we pray for God to open our eyes that we might see those in need and realize the God given power we have to help? We can help Jesus in his work of giving ‘life in all of its’ fullness’, but we must do so with him at the centre. We give what is in our power, but we ask him to guide, inspire, lead and resource.

What has God given you that you can use to hlep others to find freedom?

As we use the things that God has given us for good, how do we keep Jesus at the centre?

Are we open to the Possibilities?

When we began to think about our house move, one of the things that Tracey said that she was going to miss was the island in the kitchen (you may have seen it in various EBA videos such as this one). The kitchen in our new manse is considerably smaller …
