How is your signal strength? (21 October)

The thought this week was written by Graeme Ross, EBA Regional Minister

Recently I came across this photo which I took a few years ago and it brought a smile to my face as I remembered my son waving his phone in the air as we walked through the countryside. Can you guess what he was doing?

He was so desperate to get a signal for his phone that he spent a long time with his arm in the air as he searched for a connection with the world beyond rural Suffolk. As I thought about his willingness to be uncomfortable to try to get a signal, I was left wondering about how passionate I am about maintaining and strengthening my signal with God?

God promises to be with us always and so his signal to us is strong and constant and so any loss of connection can only be due to us not being open to receive his signal and to respond to it.

I have to admit that I really struggle with the use of ‘we are coming into God’s presence language’ during worship. I wonder if ‘we are meeting here to reconnect with God/strengthen our connection with God’ might be more helpful? God is as present with us each day as he is in a church building or in an online service, he is ever present but sometimes we lose or have an intermittent connection with him and often worshipping with others helps us to strengthen and renew our connection

May we become more passionate about keeping our connection with God open and strong.
