Don’t you love it when God speaks in unexpected ways?
Around the time ‘The Greatest Showman’ was released I was preaching on discipleship and it occurred to me that the song ‘Tightrope’ is an thought provoking, helpful and challenging description of what it means to be a disciple of Jesus:
Any other thoughts? I’ve copied a YouTube link and the lyrics below to help jog your memory.
A final thought
For the first disciples, following Jesus must have felt like an adventure, full of risks, uncertainty and the constant discoveries of understanding more of who Jesus is and what discipleship means.
We know that following Jesus should be an exciting adventure but is that our experience?
Are we people who long for a life that is simple and planned?
Are we afraid to sail the sea ’cause we’re safer on land?
Is it time to embrace and step into the adventure that Jesus wants to lead us into?
Our latest thought for the week has been written by Graeme Ross, EBA Regional Minister.
Tightrope Lyrics from The Greatest Showman
Some people long for a life that is simple and planned
Tied with a ribbon
Some people won’t sail the sea ’cause they’re safer on land
To follow what’s written
But I’d follow you to the great unknown
Off to a world we call our own
Hand in my hand
And we promised to never let go
We’re walking a tightrope
High in the sky
We can see the whole world down below
We’re walking a tightrope
Never sure, never know how far we could fall
But it’s all an adventure
That comes with a breathtaking view
Walking a tightrope with you
With you
With you
Mountains and valleys, and all that will come in between
Desert and ocean
You pulled me in and together we’re lost in a dream
Always in motion
So I risk it all just to be with you
And I risk it all for this life we choose
Hand in my hand
And you promised to never let go
We’re walking a tightrope
High in the sky
We can see the whole world down below
We’re walking a tightrope
Never sure. Will you catch me if I should fall?
Well, it’s all an adventure
That comes with a breathtaking view
Walking a tightrope with you
With you
With you
With you
With you
With you
When we began to think about our house move, one of the things that Tracey said that she was going to miss was the island in the kitchen (you may have seen it in various EBA videos such as this one). The kitchen in our new manse is considerably smaller …
