ZBC is located in the centre of Cambridge and has been led by Revd Gale Richards since 2016. ZBC is a small congregation which has a significant engagement with the local community.
The church has run a ministry of weekly English language classes for new arrivals to the UK for the past eleven years. Two years ago, the church also started a weekly café for conversational English. A combined total of more than 150 people attended these classes or the café during the last academic year.
For more than thirty years the church has run a Pensioners’ group that serves the wider community, which has helped many people find friendship and a renewed sense of purpose in later life.
The Anglia Ruskin University campus is right next door to the church, and Gale is released by the church to serve as a part-time chaplain to ARU staff and students.
The church leases its adjoining building to Jimmy’s Cambridge – a charity serving the homeless. ZBC had a founding role in establishing Jimmy’s almost 25 years ago. Jimmy’s is now an independent charity with 24 modern guest rooms providing 24/7 care throughout the year to its guests. ZBC values the opportunities that arise to get to know and support Jimmy’s guests and staff.
• Ongoing efforts to pioneer ways of growing and making disciples when serving very diverse and transient people groups.
• For ongoing and new appropriate partnerships with individuals, other churches and different organisations to make the most of the opportunities that arise.
• For the search for the right intern for the next academic year.
• For the ongoing work of transforming the nineteenth century church building into a more accessible, flexible, fit-for-purpose space.
