Weekly Prayer Focus: The Chapel and Schoolroom

Week 10

In Woodham Ferrers, 8 miles southeast of Chelmsford is The Chapel and Schoolroom. Serving as a hub for the community, each week the “whosoever’s” are welcomed into the building. Rev Eric Fenwick and Rev Emma Hunnable serve as Community Pastors and are supported by a small volunteer team.

During the week, they connect with people through a Community Cafe, Let’s Get Cooking, Retreat Days and Seasonal services which are all age friendly and they start to introduce faith in an accessible way. They have links with a local primary school and work with another primary school whom we are developing the Infinity Project. This project will enable children who are struggling with school, to have a retreat day and start to address the social and emotional struggles these children have. There is an Ecumenical group running a 2 year course training Spiritual Directors.

The Chapel and Schoolroom Retreat Centre is the next stage of the vision for this beautiful old Chapel dating back to the 1843. ‘The Retreat’ has been built and will offer self-contained accommodation for 1 or 2 people. The facilities will be used for Christian retreats and also available for visiting family and friends by arrangement. There is a beautiful outside space and the garden area which they plan to develop over the coming months. There will be a developing regular, varied, retreat program.
