The historic market town of Swaffham is nestled in north Norfolk, a short distance from Kings Lynn. Reputedly a favourite of Lord Nelson, a Baptist presence has served the town for over 200 years.
Today Swaffham Baptist Church is a fairly small fellowship in a very large building. Despite the congregation being predominantly older folk, a number of younger people have joined in recent years, helping the church to reach out to its community.
Several groups use the church hall, including the popular monthly craft club, social evenings and regular fellowship meals. In August the church hosts ‘Holiday @ Home’ for those who may not be able to get away, and this has proven very popular.
A number of speakers regularly come to share God’s Word on Sundays and together the church shares the responsibilities for pastoral care as well as running a thriving house group.
The building remains problematic however, as its Grade 1 Listed status requires substantial ongoing maintenance work, which the church can ill afford. This has prompted much prayer and discussion for how the church might proceed in the future.
For wisdom regarding our building. That God might give us clear direction on the best way forward.
For greater effectiveness in reaching out to the town and surrounding villages.
For growth in the faith of the newer Christians in the fellowship.
