Southend City Baptist Church are a missional church whose focus and community are the local homeless people and those who are at risk of homelessness. It has recently formed as 57 West and Clarence Road Baptist Church have merged. One of the defining elements of Southend City Baptist Church is that it is a local community, many of whom see each other daily.
You can find them at their drop-in sessions with a coffee, beans on toast, or meeting with friends. All who come to the drop-in are valued as part of the community. In addition, the church partners with a food bank, cooking courses designed for those who have newly found housing and well-being groups. All of this, much of which could be termed social work, is part of the church’s missional display of Christian faith. Although the church does not separate these activities from specific faith activities, prayer groups and Sunday services are also run each week.
The minister of Southend City Baptist Church is Pam Davies. She has been the minister with 57 West for 6 years now. She is a devoted and active aunt of seven nieces and nephews. If not with the children or in the church, you will find her in the local rugby club where she is part of the team!
As part of a recent project, the manse has been repurposed as supported housing. Unfortunately, the council has not yet registered this, and it is being financially supported by the church whilst that registration is completed. Once this happens, it will be a new source of revenue for the church.
