Weekly Prayer Focus: Social Justice – Violence Against Women and Girls / Restored

Week 46

Genesis 1:27 reminds us that every person is created in the image of God, equal in worth and dignity

As we reflect on the role of the Church in protecting and supporting those affected by violence, we remember that God’s desire is for all God’s children to live free from fear and harm. Yet, tragically, many women and girls around the world, across our region, and within our own churches still live under the threat of violence.

Research by the charity Restored (Restored-uk.org) reveals that, within the Church, 1 in every 4 women have experienced abuse in their current relationship, highlighting the urgent need for action in our communities. Restored is an organisation committed to a vision where women and girls live free from fear, and its mission is to speak out about the realities of violence while equipping churches to stand against abuse and support survivors. Restored upholds values of equality, safety, and transformation, believing that the Church has a crucial role in ending violence and fostering healing.

We give thanks for all those who work responding to those affected and preventing violence through promoting healthy, respectful relationships. By speaking out and creating safe spaces, we can each be a part of helping build a culture where abuse is no longer tolerated and survivors are supported in their journey of recovery

Prayer Points:

  • Pray for all women and girls who are victims of violence, asking for God’s protection and for safe spaces where they can seek help and healing.
  • Pray for Restored as they continue to equip churches to stand against abuse and support survivors, that they would have wisdom, courage, and the resources they need to grow their impact.
  • Pray for the churches across our Association, that we may each take steps to address and prevent violence against women and girls, provide support for survivors where needed, and foster a culture of healthy relationships and dignity for all.
