Weekly Prayer Focus: Social Justice and Women

Week 43

There has been a lot in the news over these past few weeks about the mistreatment of women of all ages, social and ethnic backgrounds in our society. This has included local councils having to settle unequal pay claims made by women, to the alarming claims of harassment that women are facing working in the fire service, operating theatres in hospitals, and in the police service.

It is in this kind of context and in recognition that God desires local churches to do the work of helping to build a more just world, so that there is equality, and diversity is valued, that Baptists Together developed the resource I Am Because You Are which is a video-based training course. Whilst this resource is aimed at Baptist ministers it is also suitable for church leadership teams.

Prayer points:

  • Local churches will gain a greater understanding of the nature and levels of inequality and injustice being experienced (e.g. by women) at work, as well as at times in their local churches and in their wider local communities.
  • Local churches will be known and experienced as safe places for people (e.g. women) to share their experiences of harassment and to receive advice and support for challenging it.
  • The EBA Justice Group has come up with a list of resources that local churches can use in the quest to help build a more just society: https://www.easternbaptist.org.uk/about-eba/eba-justice-group/
