Located in a residential area on the north-east edge of Colchester is Parsons Heath Baptist Church, a small community of believers. The pastor is Revd Dr Steve Rudge who has been there since 2007.
The church was active in the local community, punching well above its weight for the relatively small number of mainly older members. However, three years ago they sensed the Lord calling them to stop their busyness, and to seek His face for the future. In 2016 the church took the painful decision to cease all activities. Instead, they established twice-weekly two hour ‘Time 4 God’ meetings on Tuesday morning and Thursday evening, where people gather to listen to God, discover quality time in the Lord’s presence, enjoy the silence, and pray together as a church as they seek to know God’s will.
During their ‘waiting on the Lord’, whilst learning to give God their attention, they find themselves broken, restored, refreshed and equipped for a ‘new thing’ that God has for them. They have learnt that everyone needs to have an individual outward missional focus in their lives, and be a witness wherever they are – workplace, family, neighbourhood — and not just together as church.
The church, whilst still waiting on the Lord and seeking his vision for the future, are considering how or if the 150-year-old building, which is a drain on financial resources, will have a place in God’s unfolding plan.
• For clarity about the use of the buildings
• That each person in the church will know God’s peace and strength
• For courage to be the missional people God has called them to be
