Mayland is a small fellowship set a few miles outside Chelmsford in Essex. It is blessed by regular visiting preachers in lieu of its own pastor and often hosts musical and theatrical events and meals.
The majority of church members live in the surrounding villages, and as the average age has increased it has become more difficult to run children’s events and work among young people. There remains a desire to connect with the local community but efforts have thus far proved unsuccessful, despite the church organising events such as MacMillan coffee mornings, choirs and bring-and-buy sales.
Despite their difficulties, Mayland remains a friendly church who have learned to depend upon the Lord for provision, and whilst the longer term future is uncertain, there is a commitment to prayer and a trust in God’s timing.
With Christmas approaching the annual cafe style Carols by Candlelight service is something to look forward to, and the church’s prayer is that it may offer an opportunity to build relationships with the community.
• Pray for a softening of hearts in the village; that the church may be able to change the community’s perceptions of Christianity.
• Pray for the visiting speakers who continue to bless us with their teaching and pastoral care.
• Pray for wisdom for the leadership team as they consider the future.
