Weekly Prayer Focus: Lighthouse Community Church

Week 11

Lighthouse Community Church is a growing Christian community located near the centre of the small town of Sheringham on the North Norfolk Coast This is an area which attracts plenty of tourists; however, there are hidden vulnerable people and families in the community. The Church strives to be open, giving, praying and loving people.

Their current Minister & team leader, Ian Savory, brings passion and experience, ably supported by an experienced Youth worker and leadership staff. Ian is also a Police Chaplain, and an 18-year-old from the Church is an Assistant Chaplain.

The Church has a modern building with good space for a variety of outreach and community activities as well as Sunday morning and evening worship and children and youth groups. Regular activities include:

• A busy cafe and soft play area. The Church is fundraising to improve the soft play area to cater for those with special needs.
• Friday Family lunches – these provide a free meal for vulnerable families and is in addition to their weekly Lunch Club for Seniors.
• “Threadbear” – a resource for vulnerable families providing good recycled clothing and supporting such families during school holidays with food parcels.
• “Sheringham Shed” – a place where people can “find community through activity.”
• Children and youth “fun times” during holidays.

The Church is blessed with many young people who have become strong leaders bringing other young people into faith. The Church emphasises nurturing and discipling young people and is willing to give young people internships and other leadership roles. They have found that young people want a gospel that costs to follow Jesus.

Please pray for:

1. God to multiply the blessing of the work among young people; wisdom for their youth worker and for young people to grow in maturity of faith and leadership.
2. Fundraising for the Soft play and cafe area
3. For discernment and listening to what the Holy Spirit is saying about how to involve tourist & international visitors in the mission of the Church.
4. For Ian and his wife Sue as they celebrate 40 years of joint ministry and Sue recovers from a knee operation.
