Hedingham Baptist Church is 218 years old and actively serves the community in Sible Hedingham, Castle Hedingham and surrounding villages in the Braintree district of Essex. The church was originally built to look like a house so that it would not overpower the parish church and, over the years, has been modernised and extended to aesthetically improve its look and function.
The church currently has three leaders but no minister. Big changes will lie ahead this year as two leaders are standing down at the May AGM, one of which is the Church Secretary and Treasurer. There are four nominations comprising of two couples. At the moment, there are no nominations for Treasurer.
Worship services are held on Sunday mornings and activities occur during the week. Cygnets Baby and Toddler Group meet on Monday mornings in term time. On Tuesday afternoons, the church is a hub of the Braintree Foodbank, which has recently combined with Reach Charity in Haverhill to provide a debt counsellor during the foodbank opening hours, which has worked well. Hedingham Hotspot is on Thursdays 10am to 2.00pm and combines a warm space for a coffee morning, lunch and a time for togetherness and chats.
Messy Church is held bi-monthly and is well attended.
Two 12-hour days of prayer are held two or three times a year with around twelve interactive Prayer Stations and Communion.
A pastoral care team was formed last year and has been very active. The various church groups use WhatsApp groups for added communication as well as Facebook pages in addition to their website.
