Weekly Prayer Focus: Great Shelford Free Church

Week 8

Great Shelford Free Church lies within a large village on the outskirts of Cambridge and is led by their pastor Diana Parr. They are a friendly bunch of people who meet together every Sunday morning. They hold a monthly café service and also regular prayer meetings.

Activities during the week include small groups, a Community Café, Little Steps and Tiny Toes for children and babies, together with Open Space: A monthly collaborative venture between the village churches, for families where regular activities occur outside on land behind the two churches. In the church’s property next door a charity called Romsey Mill runs Cara Coffee, a lovely cafe, along with volunteers from the church and the local community.

In addition to all this, events are held regularly between the parish council and village organisations – a festival in the summer where the church has a stall, a Remembrance Day event and a Christmas light switch-on. There is also involvement in assemblies at the local primary school and the school visits the church at Easter and for a summer concert.

The fellowship gives thanks for encouragements in all the different groups and among these very outward looking activities asks that you pray for:

  • Continuing opportunities to build on relationships already begun with those in the community,
  • For an Assistant or Minister in Training to join them to work with families and children and to work alongside the whole church,
  • As they seek God’s guidance in how to develop the use of the property next door when it’s not open as a coffee shop,
  • That new people may take up the baton of service within church life,
  • For the light of Jesus to be reflected more and more and that the church has an increasingly visible presence.
