Epping Green Chapel has been the historic heart of the village since 1820, as the only church. Whilst its walls are filled with history, its doors are wide open to everyone today – whether you’ve never stepped inside before or haven’t visited in a while. There, you’ll find a place to worship and belong with warm hearts, friendly faces and a message of hope grounded in the timeless truths of the Bible.
The village itself doesn’t have many amenities, and its most prominent feature is the road between Epping and Harlow. The church of around 20 people mostly live elsewhere and are grateful for the closed pub opposite that allows parking – as there are no pavements in the village to allow for walking from a distance. As the only church in the village Epping Green Chapel has a regular Sunday service as well as two Bible studies, one on zoom with people from across the country attending.
This year, Epping Green Chapel has plans for a free meal and conversation through “soup for the soul” alongside a “testimony recovery” helping people to think about God through the power of story.
Their minister is Pastor Thanos Veliantis, who met his wife in Athens when they were studying there. You may see him around the village dropping off church activity leaflets, or in Epping town giving out leaflets about God. As a Biblical Greek scholar, you will also find him leading the Bible Studies and studying.
Please pray with them:
* For people from the village to attend the church
* For the new activities planned this year
* For unity for all.
