This week our focus is on Burlington Baptist Church. This large congregation meets just outside the centre of Ipswich and have just resumed meeting together for Sunday worship services following lockdown.
In ‘normal’ times the church runs a busy seven-day schedule of activities for all ages, including a toddler group, lunch club and community outreach groups that offer hot food and drinks on the streets.
They are all part of ‘Burlington Communities’; groups of people – like extended families – seeking to love God, to love one another and to love the people around them. They are designed to be communities of discipleship and mission that take the church beyond the four walls of a building and into neighbourhoods, workplaces and networks.
The church is led by Revd Simon Harris and Revd Claire Earl, plus an extensive ministry team of paid and voluntary workers. During the pandemic they have resorted to streaming services via Facebook and their own website. A 30-minute Sunday service began this month in the church building, with a streamed service being shown later in the morning.
