Located on the north-eastern fringe of Cambridge is the very active fellowship of Barnwell Baptist Church. Rev Stuart Wood has been the minister of this fellowship since moving here in 2004. He was joined by a group of adults and children, from St Andrews Street Baptist Church in Cambridge, to replant the church at Barnwell. Since then the Church has grown and now has a big reach into the local community. Resources remain an ongoing matter for prayer.
Before the lockdown began, the Church was in the process of agreeing a Church profile with a view to appointing a second Minister to the team. This will enable Stuart to go and plant a congregation on a new housing development a mile up the road. The Church is also in discussion regarding redeveloping its site and facilities to make them suitable for ministry in the 21st Century.
During the lockdown, the Church building is being used by the local community group, Abbey People, to provide a Food Hub six days a week. The hub is providing support for families during the Covid-19 pandemic.
Like many fellowships at this time, Barnwell Baptist Church is unable to meet for worship and so, worship services are recorded and uploaded to the Church website as videos. Prayer meetings, small groups and leaders meetings are conducted each week using zoom.
• For continued guidance regarding the future in the midst of the current uncertainties
• For those who are exploring faith – one 86 year old lady recently gave her life to Jesus
• That those entering the building daily using the Food Hub, will meet with God
• For the elderly and isolating members of the congregation to feel connected, even though they are not online
