Safeguarding Training

Safeguarding training

By Hayley Beckett on 10th February 2021

Since March 2020 the Eastern Baptist Association has been unable to provide face to face safeguarding training due to Coronavirus restrictions. The Baptist Union National Safeguarding team have now produced an Excellence in Safeguarding Update film. The film is a temporary measure until we are able to return to face-to-face training.

The Safeguarding Update film covers the key points of both Level 2 and Level 3 training and is accompanied by a Resources Pack that comes as a PDF. The film lasts for 90 minutes and there is a break point in the middle. Throughout the film there are four ‘Stop and Consider’ points that encourage you to pick up paper and pen and reflect on the themes that have been covered as well as thinking about safeguarding practice in your church. It includes specific guidance about the impact of coronavirus and the ways in which churches might respond to safeguarding concerns. At the end of the film, you will be asked to think about action points for you and your church. Following the film we then invite you to join a 45 min Q and A session with the EBA trainers to discuss the film and any questions you may have. Please note that current safeguarding cases, or any situations that could identify any specific people, case or church will not be discussed and should there be any disclosures of abuse within Q and A discussions, these would need to be shared as per safeguarding procedures.

The online interim Safeguarding training is suitable for those within your church who undertake roles whether paid or voluntary that require a level of safeguarding training. This training is only interim and does not provide all the aspects of a face to face training day.

For those that wish to take part in the training please book with EBA secretary for one of the Q and A sessions below. For each participant we will need their name, church and  personal email, to be able to send the video link and zoom invite to. (information will only be used for the safeguarding training links) The preceding Friday the link to the video will be emailed out to each participant along with the invite to the Q and A zoom. You need to have watched the film prior to attending the zoom.
