News from Southend!
57 West & Clarence Road are two member churches of the Baptist Union of Great Britain and have worked independently of each other for 5 years out of our city centre premises. Making the bold decision to open the dividing door between the two communities, we now work as one faith community seeking to reach out to others across the city.
Church
In October 2022 we joined together for interactive Sunday services, exploring our values under themes of storytelling, mission, worship, communion, baptism and more. A new community member has already expressed a desire to be baptised, so we’re planning for that alongside our advent themes which are both really exciting!
Groups
We continue to facilitate a number of groups including café sessions, art & wellbeing clubs, cooking courses and rough sleeper drop in. We hope to expand these groups as we continue to work together and are exploring how we can engage young adults as this ministry develops.
Support
We continue to work in partnership with CAP, the Street Pastors, the Food Bank, Stephen’s Place and are part of the Southend Area Baptist Network as well as the Southend Homeless Action Network (among a number of other community groups). Those who are homeless, or at risk of homelessness, continue to be at the core of our community and our drop-in sessions are open to all – whether for housing / debt / mental health signposting or a chance to talk to someone over coffee.
Could you support us?
We have huge plans for our two communities as we seek to work as one. While we have a business plan that will enable this emerging ministry to be self-sustaining long term, we are seeking funding while we undergo the necessary work to fund our charitable activities. Your support will enable us to develop this partnership and continue to engage marginalised communities across the city. You can support our ministry by donating to:
Account name: 57 West Sort code: 30-94-26 Account number: 17271960
We ask that you continue to hold 57 West & Clarence Road Baptist Church in your prayers over the coming months and offer an open invitation to any of our drop-in sessions, where you would be very welcome.
Thank you!
